‘A Brave Face’: the play inspired by Aftershock

Earlier this year , Vamos Theatre, the masked theatre company, launched a new production called ‘A Brave Face.’ The play tells the fictional story of a British soldier named Ryan, who fought in Afghanistan at the age of 18, and battles post-traumatic stress after returning home.

Artistic Director Rachael Savage drew heavily on true stories in Aftershock to produce what I believe is a moving and accurate portrayal of the struggles so many ex-forces and their families face. (Read a rave review here).

The play premiered at the London International Mime Festival and has toured the UK. I took part in post-show discussions in London, Colchester, Newbury, and Dundee. The Vamos team are doing fantastic work raising awareness of the challenges ex-forces and their families can face, and in providing a platform for exploring how we can better support them.
