{"id":1531,"date":"2018-08-23T23:34:37","date_gmt":"2018-08-23T23:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/matthewgreenjournalism.com\/index.php\/?p=1531"},"modified":"2018-08-23T23:34:37","modified_gmt":"2018-08-23T23:34:37","slug":"a-brave-face-the-play-inspired-by-aftershock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matthewgreenjournalism.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/23\/a-brave-face-the-play-inspired-by-aftershock\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;A Brave Face&#8217;: the play inspired by Aftershock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this year ,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vamostheatre.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vamos Theatre<\/a>, the masked theatre company, launched a new production called &#8216;<em>A Brave Face.&#8217;\u00a0<\/em>The play tells the fictional story of a British soldier named Ryan, who fought in Afghanistan at the age of 18, and battles post-traumatic stress after returning home.<\/p>\n<p>Artistic Director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vamostheatre.co.uk\/about\/the-company\/the-vamos-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rachael Savage<\/a>\u00a0drew heavily on true stories in\u00a0<em>Aftershock<\/em>\u00a0to produce what I believe is a moving and accurate portrayal of the struggles so many ex-forces and their families face. (Read a rave review\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shropshire-events-guide.co.uk\/theatre-review-brave-face\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The play premiered at the<a href=\"http:\/\/mimelondon.com\/festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0London International Mime Festival\u00a0<\/a>and has toured the UK. I took part in post-show discussions in London, Colchester, Newbury, and Dundee.
