On Tuesday, September 11,\u00a0I’ll be appearing on a panel giving\u00a0evidence to the House of Commons\u00a0Defence Select Committee<\/strong>\u00a0on how mental healthcare for serving personnel, veterans and their families can be improved. The hearing starts at 11:30 am and will be\u00a0broadcast live on\u00a0parliament TV<\/a>.<\/div>\n

I’d love to hear\u00a0specific suggestions\u00a0<\/strong>on how services could be better \u2014 \u00a0no matter how modest or ambitious.\u00a0Even taking 10 seconds to write me a single sentence\u00a0will help me to make my testimony count. I have enclosed links to submissions\u00a0from earlier this year below.<\/p>\n

Last month, I wrote a\u00a0cover story for the Financial Times Weekend<\/a>\u00a0section on why we need to embrace new types of psychological therapies to give all trauma survivors \u2014 military or civilian\u00a0\u2014 their best\u00a0shot at recovery.\u00a0The story garnered\u00a0more than 150 comments, and I received a number of heartfelt personal emails. It was very encouraging to know how many people care so deeply about these matters.<\/p>\n

Separately, I will be holding a\u00a0live online event<\/strong>\u00a0at 8pm UK time this\u00a0Thursday, September 6\u00a0for people who want to explore new perspectives on depression, as an extension of my course:\u00a0‘Deep Work: the 11 Lessons I learned from depression.’<\/a>\u00a0The theme of the event is\u00a0“How can we reclaim our minds?”<\/strong>\u00a0It’s free and lasts one hour.
